Driving under the influence of alcohol
Driving under the influence of alcohol (drunk driving) has already been on the political agenda for a long time. The legislator has tried to bring back driving under the influence of alcohol with all sorts of punishments and measures. These punishments and measures show a trend of getting more severe through time.
Experience learns that driving under the influence of alcohol cannot be banned completely. People who are caught driving under the influence of alcohol are confronted with a lot of consequences. They are arrested and are obliged to cooperate with a breath analysis research at the police station. Afterwards a disqualification from driving is imposed and in more serious cases the driving license can be suspended.
After this the police sends the file to the CVOM (Public Prosecution Service Central Processing Unit) and reports the driving under influence to the CBR (Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing). After some time the public prosecutor will either summon the person concerned for a session at the public prosecutor’s office or for a trial at the police court judge. At the trial the punishment will be established.
