Fine webshops

Regulator ‘Autoriteit Consumenten en Markt’ (Dutch regulator on consumers and market) fines five online stores, because they inform their customers insufficiently on the rules around cancelling a purchase.

The online stores of Coolcat, Bever, Kiesdejuistesportbh, Shoebaloo and Hipvoordeheb received a combined fine of 590,000 euros.

Online stores have to explicitly notify their customers that they have the right to cancel a purchase within fourteen days after receiving the product. They are then also compensated for the costs of ordering and delivering.  This is also applicable on goods that were bought on a discount. The online store has to return the money within fourteen days after the notification of the cancellation.

ACM (Dutch regulator on consumers and market) announced at the end of 2014 that they will impose harsh sanctions on online stores that do not inform their clients properly on the option to cancel or do not pay their customers back in time.
